Treasure Island Vintage

Today I discovered a new flea market.  It's on Treasure Island near the Bay Bridge in San Francisco.  It's only one weekend a month, so I didn't want to miss it.  Although I have lived in the Bay Area for several years, I have never been to Treasure Island.  It is really a wild and beautiful ride from the freeway to Avenue of the Palms where the flea market is located.  This fairly new flea market was the idea of a couple that wanted to have a flea market with vintage items along with handmade clothing, jewelry, furniture and more.

I met my friend, Kathy, there who traveled via bus from San Francisco.  The first thing we saw was a giant wire sculpture of a beautiful, dancing woman.  I was told that it came from Burning Man and is called "Bliss."  As we walked through the main gate, we were met by a French singer playing an instrument from at least the 19th century.  It definitely set the tone.

We spent at least two hours walking around looking at vintage and contemporary clothes, shoes, purses and cute dogs.   There were many other interesting there too, but I concentrated on the clothes.  I want to acknowledge three vendors that I met today that had my favorite vintage clothes.  (1) C&M Vintage Pros, 408-691-5741,; (2) The Window Lady, 510-326-6324, and (3) Nested Treasures, 113 Rickenbacker Circle, Livermore.  Proceeds from Nested Treasures goes to help animals.

And speaking of animals, there were many at Treasure Island Flea Market today along with the vintage clothes.  The ones in the baby buggies are actually service animals who enjoy being served.  There was also a fantastic band with a drummer who did not look over six years old.

SoHo Vintage Part 2

I had to return to work this week, so it has taken a few days to publish the long awaited part 2 of my trip to Soho.  I'm including photos of only 2 stores, Round About New & Resale Couture (115 Mercer St., Soho, (212) 966-9166, and Second Time Around (111 Thompson St., New York, NY,

I liked both of these stores for different reasons, but both had affordable clothes for even a middle class shopper like myself.  Round About had a lower floor where everything was 65% off.  I bought a gorgeous brown skirt for only $30.  There were also shoes that I wished had fit me, but was happy to get the skirt.  I ended my trip by going to Second Time Around, which was featured as a reality show on Bravo this winter.  I watched every episode and made a vow to visit the store if I traveled to New York.  I was not disappointed.  They also had affordable shoes that didn't fit me as well as beautiful clothes and purses.  The sales staff were very nice and welcomed me to photograph the store.  What a fun way to end my vintage trip to New York.
